Statement From Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act on Senator Ron Johnson’s Announcement of Hearings on 9/11 Conspiracy Theories

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), in an interview yesterday with conservative influencer Benny Johnson trafficked in crazy conspiracy theories, asserting that Building 7 of the World Trade Center Complex was brought down via “a controlled demolition” in the aftermath of the collapse of the Twin Towers, and announced he planned to have hearings on this issue.

Instead of having hearings on conspiracy theories that were discredited years ago, we wish Sen. Johnson would sponsor the bipartisan legislation, S. 739/HR 1410, that will fully fund the World Trade Center Health Program for the future.

If he wants to have hearings on 9/11, he could have them to examine the cuts to the World Trade Center Health Program by the Trump Administration that are happening today and the impact these cuts will have on 9/11 responders and survivors suffering from the attacks, rather than fringe topics from decades ago.
