Remembering 9/11 Should Be More Than a Facebook Post
This past September 11th, on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, most U.S. Senators and Representatives expressed their sorrow and remembered those who died that day, as they do every anniversary.
It’s of course right to honor the victims of 9/11/2001 and we applaud the Senators and House members for not forgetting, but we need to remember that more have died from the toxins at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville (PA) since 9/11 than were killed by the terrorists on the day of the attack itself.
What’s more, thousands of residents, responders, and survivors are still suffering the impacts on their health with almost 50,000 with a 9/11 cancer all these years later.
The World Trade Center Health Program, which treats over 140,000 9/11 responders and survivors living in every state and in 434 out of 435 Congressional districts, is facing cutbacks in the coming years due to a funding gap.
Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act want to make clear that Remembering 9/11 should be more than making a statement on the anniversary.
The bipartisan 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act of 2025 (S. 739 / H.R. 1410) would close that funding gap—but none of the Senators and Representatives listed below have yet to co-sponsor the bill.
These Senators and Representatives should join the bipartisan 13 Senators and 91 House Members who are already supporting 9/11 responders and survivors by cosponsoring S. 739 / H.R. 1410.
9/11 is not just a social media post or a bumper sticker to the thousands still dealing with the health impact of 9/11 even today, 24 years later.
Below are all the members of the House and Senate who are currently not sponsors of the legislation to fully fund the World Trade Center Health Program and what they said in their social media post on this past 9/11 Anniversary.

At 8:46 a.m., an American Airlines Boeing 767 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing hundreds instantly and trapping many others. Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175, another Boeing 767, struck the south tower near the 60th floor. The attacks were soon revealed to be part of a coordinated effort by Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations, financed by Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda. They had been living in the U.S. and received flight training and hijacked four planes. At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed at 9:59 a.m., followed by the north tower at 10:28 a.m., due to the intense heat from the burning jet fuel compromising the structural integrity of the skyscrapers. The collapse led to the deaths of nearly 3,000 people, including 343 firefighters, 23 police officers, and 37 Port Authority officers. The attacks, which also included a fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to regain control, represented one of the deadliest days in American history and led to significant changes in U.S. domestic and foreign policy. |

This year’s remembrance of 9/11 comes with added sorrow. Just yesterday, our conservative movement lost a great friend and remarkable leader: Charlie Kirk. Charlie embodied grace in the face of hostility, deep love for our nation, hope for every soul he encountered, and unshakable faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. He inspired millions of young Americans to find purpose, rejoice in their love of Christ, and cherish the blessings of family and children. Though his years were too few—just thirty-one—Charlie’s life was marked by courage, conviction, and self-sacrifice worthy of recognition on a day when we honor American heroes like Welles Crowther. May God bless their souls, and may we find the courage to protect and preserve an America worthy of their sacrifice. |

There were painful and trying moments, including for Muslim-Americans. But overall, all Americans were united. We were on the same team. We didn’t yet know what the post-9/11 world would be like, but we did in those first days feel a sense of common purpose — something that feels very far away right now. So on this anniversary, in addition to remembering the victims and the first responders, please take a moment to think about those days afterwards and remember the care we felt for our fellow Americans that feels miles away right now. |
