Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act Statement on Amendment to Senate Budget by Senators Gillibrand and Ayotte

“Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act applauds Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) for working together and taking the first step in the process of renewing and extending the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

By getting the Senate to unanimously accept a provision in the proposed budget that affirms the need for future legislation to renew the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, the Senators have kick started the critical push to protect, support and help injured and ill 9/11 Responders and Survivors from across the country. But there is much work to be done to enact legislation that will extend the law.

Zadroga Act programs provide medical treatment and monitoring for thousands across the country, in every State and in 429 out of 435 Congressional Districts, as well as compensation for their injuries. With the programs set to expire during the 114th Congress, it is encouraging that the Senate has started the process in a bipartisan manner.”
